Single Serving Hot Chocolate for One
Hi, my name is Sarah, and Iβm a chocoholic π Iβve been putting down a cup a day as soon as hot chocolate season starts (October in my opinion), and I think youβll agree that nothing really compares to a big mug of liquid chocolate. And while itβs always better to drink homemade hot chocolate with a crowd, oftentimes it really is just me slurping on some, so we made the perfect recipe for homemade hot chocolate for one.

Why Make Hot Chocolate from Scratch?
Now I know you may be asking yourself whatβs so special about homemade hot chocolate when you could just use a pre-portioned packed of Swiss Miss. And youβre absolutely right! But in my opinion, nothingΒ tastes better than homemade. You can customize it, make it to fit your dietary needs, and you know there arenβt going to be any preservatives, excessive sugar, or additives.
Homemade Hot Chocolate Ingredients:
Made with just 4 ingredients, this hot chocolate for one is a breeze to throw together. All youβll need are these 4 ingredients:
- Milk: any hot chocolate needs a creamy base! And the great thing about making hot chocolate for one is that you can make it with whatever you want. So if youβre dairy free, use a coconut milk or a creamy oat milk. If youβre real milk fan, go for a 1%
- Cocoa Powder: Itβs called hot chocolate for reason. You can make hot chocolate with melted squares of chocolate or cocoa powder, but we found melted chocolate was a little too thick. Use a high quality cocoa powder for the best flavor!
- Vanilla:Β A splash of vanilla will take your hot chocolate for oneΒ recipe from Swiss Miss toΒ gourmet.Β Make sure youβre using pure vanilla bean extract and remember that a little goes a long way!
- Salt: Salt is one of the most underrated baking ingredients and itβs no exception in this homemade hot chocolate for one. Salt works to enhance and deepen any sweet flavor. Just add a pinch!

What kind of chocolate to use in homemade hot chocolate?
As you know, when weβre developing recipes we try out every variation we can think of to make sure youβre getting the best single serving hot chocolate ever created.
The big question in homemade hot chocolate making is whether to use real chocolate bars or cocoa?
The verdict? We found that chocolate bars were just a little too rich for our taste, so we went with cocoa powder instead! Youβll still get a super chocolatey drink, but it wonβt give you a stomachache.
That being said, if you are looking for a thiiiiiick hot chocolate, might we recommend this liquid gold tahini hot chocolate?

How to make homemade hot chocolate?
Just three tips that should be pretty darn easy to follow:
- Use high quality cocoa:Β If there is one rule to follow in the homemade hot cocoa game, itβs to use high quality ingredients. In simply recipes it is SO important to use high qual ingredients because they really shine through. We use Rodelle cocoa powder and cannot recommend it enough!
- Donβt forget the salt:Β The salt will work to cut some of the sweetness and give your hot cocoa that fancy gourmet taste!
- Use a thick milk: You can make this hot chocolate with any type of milkβalmond, oat, coconut, 1%, 2%β¦whatever works for you, but we would recommend using a slightly thicker and creamier version whatever you decide. Because this hot chocolate for one is made with cocoa powder instead of real chocolate pieces

So if youβre looking a for a sweet treat to warm you up on this dreary Winter Monday, look no further. And you know what goes well with a big olβ mug of chocolate? A cinnamon roll.
Treat yoself.
