  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature

for the brown sugar filling

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 2/3 cup packed dark brown sugar*
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

for the crumb topping

  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/3 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • pinch of salt

for the vanilla icing

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoons milk
  • splash of vanilla extract
  • pinch of salt

Notes

  1. We used dark brown sugar because it will give you a beautiful swirl, but light brown sugar will work just as well if that’s all you have on hand!
